Marcus Luttrell was left devastated when he was awoken by the sound of a gun shot in the early hours of April 1, 2009 to find that his beloved service dog DASY, a Labrador retriever, had been killed.

Marcus Luttrell was left devastated when he was awoken by the sound of a gun shot in the early hours of April 1, 2009 to find that his beloved service dog DASY, a Labrador retriever, had been killed.

Alfonso Hernandez, 24, was found guilty of a felony on Thursday in Walker County, Texas by a jury of four men and eight women. Two days earlier, his accomplice Michael Edmonds, 21, pleaded guilty to the same charge and admitted that he was the one to fire the fatal shot.

Luttrell testified during the trial that he heard a single gunshot around 2 am on the fateful night, grabbed his pistol, went to check on his mother who lived next door and then got to the roadway to find DASY shot dead.

“I saw my dog in a ditch and two men standing outside the car,” Luttrell said. “I could hear them laughing.”

Luttrell gave chase to the men, who attempted to escape in a car going up to 100 mph through several counties. A patrol officer finally pulled them over.

Prosecutors believe the two men may have killed several area dogs for kicks, but until the Luttrell incident, they'd never had the evidence to prosecute them. They also revealed Hernandez also kicked and beat the dog as it lay dying.

Sentencing is scheduled for February, with both of the men facing up to two years in jail and a fine of $10,000.

DASY had been given to Luttrell as a puppy in 2007 to help him through his recovery stemming from his tour of duty in Afghanistan where several of his pals had been killed.

The Navy Seal was the only survivor of 2005 Operation Redwing, which left 19 American troops dead. DASY’s name is an acronym of the initials of the veteran’s fallen comrades.

He was awarded the Navy Cross and a Purple Heart, and wrote a book about his experience called Lone Survivor.

Reese Witherspoon's latest fashion statement has caused ripples of disgust among animal lovers and has outraged PETA, RadarOnline.com can report.

"No matter how much Reese paid for that bag, the animals paid a much higher price," Nicole Dao, Media Liaison for the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) told RadarOnline.com.

"No matter how much Reese paid for that bag, the animals paid a much higher price," Nicole Dao, Media Liaison for the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) told RadarOnline.com.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, the Water For Elephants star has been spotted several times in Los Angeles carrying a Chloe Paraty python and leather purse, which she clearly didn’t buy in California because the popular snakeskin has been banned from sales there since 1970.

"We can't imagine that she'd wish to contribute to this hidden suffering, especially for something as frivolous as a fashion accessory that can be replicated with no bloodshed," said Dao, who went on to explain the grotesque manner in which pythons are impaled on trees and skinned alive for their sought-after scales.

It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago this precious pooch was so deformed she had been stuffed into a trash bag to be tossed away.

But now RadarOnline.com is happy to bring you new video of Harper, the adorable pit-bull puppy who is now thriving after being saved by a caring animal lover.

PHOTOS: Puppy Love: Stars and Their Dogs

Harper would have almost certainly died if on August 31 Erica Daniel hadn't stepped in to save her.

"There was a man outside the Save-A-Lot selling pit-bull puppies for $50 a pop," said the woman from Sanford, Florida. "This woman
approached him and noticed a noise coming from a garbage bag he was holding. She asked him, 'What's in the bag? and he said, 'Don't worry about it.'"

But luckily for Harper the woman pressed the man until he opened the bag and showed her the contents. Inside was a tiny puppy so afflicted
by a rigor-mortis-like condition called Swimmer Puppy Syndrome, that she could barely walk.

Shelter workers and vets were left horrified by the poor puppy, concluding she should be put out of her misery.

And while Daniel - who fosters dogs - agreed, she decided to take her home and give her one night of affection before she was euthanized.

"I had to show her what it was like to be loved," she said. "I'd planned on taking her home that night, letting her sleep in bed with
us and having her humanely euthanized in the morning."

However when she woke up and began massaging Harper's rigid limbs she soon began to improve.

A second opinion from another vet led to the conclusion that with a little love, medication and massage therapy she would live a happy and
mobile life.

If she continues to improve Harper will be ready for adoption in a month.

EXCLUSIVE: Humane Society Exec: Gosselin Family Dogs Need to Be Protected from the Kids

The Humane Society of Berks County (PA) followed up on more than a dozen complaints that the German Shepherd Dogs owned by Jon and Kate Gosselin were being mistreated and determined that there was no cruelty, but there is cause for concern.

Jon Gosselin ignited the controversy when he was quoted as saying, “the kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they’ve done.”

While not illegal activity, it is potentially an accident waiting to happen, Karel Minor, HSBC executive director told RadarOnline.com exclusively.

“Enough of that kind of behavior could eventually result in even the best-behaved dog to snap at a child,” Minor said.

“We’ve suggested they might want to teach the kids how to better interact with the dogs before there is a bite incident.”

Minor said that all of the complaints that came to his organization were from viewers of the TLC series, some of whom seemed to simply “not like” the Jon & Kate Plus 8 family, and none had first hand knowledge of how the dogs, Nala and Shoka, were treated.

“We verified that their vaccinations and licenses were current.  We spoke to their vet,” Minor said.

“If someone comes forward with credible evidence of abuse, we will investigate further but no one has approached us with any first hand knowledge that a problem exists.”

BREAKING NEWS: Jon Gosselin: Complaints of Animal Cruelty

Posted on Jun 08, 2009 @ 05:45PM - Add a comment
DNP Random Things Pics

The Humane Society of Berks County (PA) has logged more than a dozen complaints that Jon Gosselin's treatment of his German Shepherds, Nala and Shoka, violates animal cruelty laws.

Ironically, it was Jon himself who brought on the complaints from dog lovers around the country.

In an interview, Jon said of his dogs, "the kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they've done."

The Humane Society ended up letting the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star off the hook, saying it found he was guilty of a "poor choice of words" but not cruelty.

"We have no credible reason to believe in any way that there is cruelty going on," Humane Society executive director Karel Minor told the Reading Eagle newspaper.
