All My Children Wraps Up Friday After 40-Year Run

The legendary soap opera All My Children wraps up Friday, after more than 40 years on the air.

The soap opera, originally a half-hour show, hit the air January 5, 1970; it was later expanded to an hour.

Earlier this month, Susan Lucci, 64, who played Erica Kane on the soap since 1970, vented her frustration with the show's end in a new epilogue she added to the paperback version of her autobiography, All My Life: A Memoir.

Kelly Ripa On All My Children Cancellation: ‘I Feel Heart Sick’

The cancellation of All My Children has Kelly Ripa wiping back tears.  She’s “heart sick” the soap opera that made her a star is going off the air, RadarOnline.com has learned.

"This is like losing a member of your family,” Ripa said about the show she starred on for 20 years.  Ripa, 41, played Hayley Vaughan Santos and spoke fondly of the show that was so dear to her.

It’s Over For All My Children & One Life To Live

Two of TV’s longest-running daytime dramas -- All My Children and One Life To Live -- have been canceled, RadarOnline.com is reporting.

ABC made the announcement Thursday. Both shows will be replaced by lifestyle programs The Chew and The Revolution – the popular soaps will end in September 2010 and January 2011 respectively.

The nation’s slumping economy just hit Pine Valley.

ABC announced Wednesday that it’s moving production of it’s long-time running soap opera All My Children from New York to Los Angeles in a move designed to cut costs.

Production will be re-located to L.A. starting in December; filming begins the week of January 4, 2010.

"All My Children is one of the most recognizable brands in television and we are committed to continue telling and enhancing the stories of the residents of Pine Valley," said ABC daytime president Brian Frons.
