The 41-year-old restaurant/bar owner was murdered in the vacation destination after she and her husband Bruce were trying to rekindle their romance. Bruce, who was a Survivor producer, had an affair with someone at work. At one point, he was considered the only suspect in the case, but authorities are still waiting for final DNA results before making any arrest.

“I am from Brazil, I am a lawyer and I am a mother. I don’t know what the justice system there is doing,” Ely said from the family restaurant Zabumba in Venice, California. The Burgos Family Attorney Alison Triessl said Mexico has primary jurisdiction over the case, “so our focus right now is getting him (Bruce) arrested and prosecuted.”  They have also consulted with the FBI.

Triessl says “we are gravely concerned. This murder took place a month ago and there’s only one suspect and no arrest. We are trying to figure out why that is.”

Explosive Emails Between Bruce, His Mistress And His Wife

Although Monica’s sister Jeane has gone to Cancun three times asking for answers, the only explanation Mexican officials give the family is they are “waiting for test results.” Triessl said she consulted with a pathologist who thinks a second autopsy could result in different information. “We believe there is so much other evidence that this case is fairly easy to prosecute.”
