'Celebrity Rehab' Alum Mike Starr Dead At 44

Celebrity Rehab third season contestant, and former Alice In Chains bassist, Mike Starr has died, age 44, RadarOnline.com can report.
During his appearance on Dr Drew’s hit VH1 show, an emotional Starr revealed that he did not want to end up like his former band mate, Layne Staley, who died of a drugs overdose in 2002, age 34.

Mike Starr -- Alice In Chains' original bass player who would go on to appear on VH1's Celebrity Rehab -- is facing felony drug charges in Salt Lake City, Utah, and shortly before his arrest asked cops if they had heard of his band, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Mike Starr, Alice In Chains' original bass player who would go on to appear on VH1's Celebrity Rehab, was arrested in connection with suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance in Salt Lake City, Utah on Thursday, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Ex-Alice in Chains bassist and Celebrity Rehab alumnus Mike Starr was arrested Monday in Los Angeles on a drug charge.
Starr, who is currently being held at the Bauchet Street Jail in Downtown LA, was arrested on a felony narcotics charge.

His bail is set for $100k and he is due for arraignment at the Pasadena Superior court on October 14th.

Starr, 43, is no stranger to legal troubles - his past charges include DUI, reckless driving and various drug charges.

It was 15 years ago this month that Kurt Cobain took his own life in his greenhouse in Seattle, joining the 27 Club with the likes of Jim, Jimi, Janis, and Brian before him. And appropriately there’s a new book to mark the occasion—Grunge Is Dead: The Oral History of Seattle Rock Music (ECW)—that offers up another look at the Seattle scene, this time strung together in the words of those who lived it, like successful rock history tomes Please Kill Me and Andrew Loog Oldham’s Stoned before it.
Author Greg Prato talked to 130 people who were there when—there being Seattle, of course, and when being in the ‘90s when grunge ruled the music world—including, most impressively, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, along with members of Soundgarden and Alice In Chainsand the founders of seminal Seattle record label Sub Pop. Going further behind the music, the book includes interviews with the women in the rock stars’ lives—Kurt Cobain’s pre-Courtney girlfriend Tracy Marander (and the inspiration for “About A Girl”), Susan Silver, Chris Cornell’s ex-wife and –manager, and the mother of late Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley, who speaks about her deceased son’s drug problem.
