Gaiam Calorie Coach G1: Pedometer For Women?

Posted on Sep 29, 2010 @ 02:44PM - Add a comment

This handy dandy calorie counter is specifically designed for women, though why it wouldn’t work just as well for a man is beyond us. Yes, it’s small, though we’d argue it’s not fashionable (green?) but who cares about that when you’re working out? If you’re serious about calories burned then you want a product that does the job, not a gadget that positions itself as “fashionable.”

The album finds Ronson experimenting with vintage keyboards found on eBay to create a synth-driven pop album over big old-school beats and hints of French electro. The album features guest appearances by Boy George, D’Angelo, Q-Tip and Alex Greenwald, to name a few, but the standout title track features none other than Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon crooning “I only want to be in your record collection, and I’ll do anything it takes to get there”, whilst sharing vocal duties with Ronson, who delivers hilarious lyrics like, “My teeth are bright and my hair is clean/I wear Paco Rabanne like I was Charlie Sheen,” all over keyboards by Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes. And working with the ‘80s icons was not lost on Ronson. “Duran Duran were the first band I remember being a real fan of,” he said recently. “I had an Arena lunch box and a Smash Hits sticker book.”……

He’ll perform for 8 shows but even though this is his first turn on a Broadway stage, we’ll think he’ll do just fine since he’s used to performing his songs in front of sold-out stadiums. Armstrong will play songs such as Know Your Enemy, St. Jimmy, Homecoming and Last Night on Earth.

If you want to get tickets, act fast. At the St. James Theatre in New York City.

Investing in the new Michael Douglas and Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, would be a good bet as it opened as the No. 1 weekend movie with $19 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The "Wall Street' sequel reunites director Stone with Douglas, who reprises his role as investment shark Gordon Gekko. The movie co-stars Shia LaBeouf, Carey Mulligan and Josh Brolin in a tale set against the 2008 economic meltdown.

About Six Degrees: A Message from Kevin Bacon

Posted on Sep 27, 2010 @ 03:26PM - Add a comment

You've probably heard of the Six Degrees concept. You’ve probably played it with your friends. Now, the real Kevin Bacon is using this game for good. Here’s what the actor/musician and now philanthropist has to say:

“Any one person (including me, Kevin Bacon) is connected to any other person through six or fewer relationships, because it's a small world. SixDegrees.org is about using this idea to accomplish something good. It's social networking with a social conscience.

Through this web site, you can support your favorite charities by donating or creating fundraising badges — as well as check out the favorite causes of other people, including celebrities.  You can also pay it forward with Good Cards® - gift cards for charity that can be redeemed as a donation to more than 1 million charities.
www.SixDegrees.org was started with the nonprofit Network For Good in January 2007, more than 10 years after the game, "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" made the rounds of college campuses and lived on to be a shorthand term for the small world phenomenon.”

Again , the website is SixDegrees.org.

Weekender Fall Collection

Posted on Sep 27, 2010 @ 02:35PM - Add a comment

We recently discovered Jouer costmetics, when a publicist sent us the new “Weekender Fall Collection,” a collection of everything you’d need, from trio of neutral eye shadows, in cream and medium and dark brown; a pressed bronzer and sheer powder duo (the powder section looks ultra-light, but it really is sheer); a peachy-pink cream tint and lighter toned highlighter for cheeks; and a shimmering bronze-hued lip gloss.

And the handy jigsaw contraption means you’re carrying just one little make-up compact, but for that teeny evening clutch, you can snap off any of the products to bring with you for a touch up. Clever, eh?

Besides being portable and practical, the colors are the prefect palette for almost any skin tone and easy to mix and match.

Priced at $58 and available Sept. 1 at Henri Bendel and at jouercosmetics.com, it makes the perfect companion for a Fall Getaway, that is, if Hugh Grant is not available.

Find Your Muse

A hit in their home country, it wasn’t until Muse’s fourth album, Black Holes and Revelations, was released in 2006, that the band broke into the US market, reaching number nine on the Billboard album chart.  (The album title pays homage to their fascination with science fiction and political rebellion.)

A hit in their home country, it wasn’t until Muse’s fourth album, Black Holes and Revelations, was released in 2006, that the band broke into the US market, reaching number nine on the Billboard album chart.  (The album title pays homage to their fascination with science fiction and political rebellion.)

Formed in  1994, the band is still comprised of original members, Matthew Bellamy (lead vocals, guitars, piano, keyboards, keytar), Christopher Wolstenholme (bass, backing vocals, keyboards, guitars, harmonica), and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion, synthesizers, backing vocals, sampling).

They recently played L.A. and did not disappoint any of their fans. Playing songs from their new release, The Resistance, they also featured their earlier works. Their set was a well thought out as any of their songs; an interactive, round stage with parts that raised and descended throughout the night. Though they connected with their fans, there was actually very little talking between songs, which didn’t seem to be an issue with the crowd.

Muse lived up to its reputation as one of the best live bands around. Don’t miss them if you get the chance.

Condoms For Pets

Does your hotel offer pet-friendly cocktail hours such as the W in San Diego? Or $300 learn-to-surf package for dogs, like the Lowes Coronado Bay Resort in San Diego? The most unusual pet service we heard about was a hotel in Aspen that allows visitors to “borrow” a pet for the day from the local animal shelter, a service which usually leads to the pup being adopted.

And how about a spa? Not for you, but for your furry companion. The spa offers all the usual grooming services plus treats like aromatherapy, reflexology, and doggie facials, and “pet shopping” for find couture dog and cat fashions, collars, and accessories at the boutique.
