A midsummer incident in which actress Mischa Barton was placed under an involuntarily psychiatric hold was "blown out of proportion," Barton told the ladies of The View on Friday.

Barton said, in a husky tone, that she was "overwhelmed" after a botched operation in which she had four wisdom teeth pulled left her in "excruciating pain." She said the "chronic pain" associated with her poorly-repaired mouth led to treatments including painkillers and at one point, a daily dosage of Novocain. She said that subsequent miscommunication with hospital staffers, as she was suffering from the pain, led to the psychiatric hold.
Barton carried herself with an air on confidence to the concerned panel, telling them: "I'm such a positive person."
The actress was checked into Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Medical Center under the involuntarily psychiatric hold July 15 for medical issues; she has a history of substance abuse, having a drunk driving arrest and rehab stint under her belt in the past two years.
The Beautiful Life is slated to premiere September 16 at 9/8c on the CW.

The CW network, as a possible distraction from Barton's recent drama, has released publicity pics from the series showing their heroine looking at her very best. The pics, in which Barton appears elevated back to her O.C.-level of hotness, stand in stark contrast to ones snapped a month ago of her looking bloated, puffy and sickly poolside in Los Angeles.

Mischa Barton, in New York shooting her new CW series, The Beautiful Life, seemingly has things back under control.
The pretty actress was snapped Wednesday after a workout in Soho, followed by some shopping at high-end beauty shop Sephora.
She seems back on track after having been checked into Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Medical Center under an involuntarily psychiatric hold July 15 for medical issues.

RadarOnline.com has learned that when troubled actress Mischa Barton returned to the set of her new CW show The Beautiful Life last Friday, she was welcomed with a group hug and now everything is back to normal.
Her co-star Sarah Paxton says "when I saw Mischa, we all just kinda had a group hug," just days after the the former OC star was released from a psychiatric hospital.

Actress Mischa Barton –who recently suffered a much publicized meltdown -- was on the set of her new CW drama The Beautiful Life in New York on Friday.
A source tells RadarOnline.com that Friday was supposed to be first day of shooting in Central Park, but rain will likely delay the shoot until Monday.
Meanwhile, Barton –pictured here Thursday - was a vision in white, departing Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens after finishing a photo shoot for her upcoming series.
The actress, sporting uber-trendy fringes on her jacket, is back to work after being checked into Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Medical Center under an involuntarily psychiatric hold July 15 for "medical issues." "She's back to business as usual," her rep said in a statement issued to news outlets.

Mischa Barton is doing well after her hospital stay, her publicist Craig Schneider told RadarOnline.com exclusively Monday.
There is still no word whether the actress -- who left the hospital Wednesday -- will still be involved CW's upcoming series, The Beautiful Life.
Schneider told RadarOnline.com, "That's the intention, it hasn't been in production yet."

Amid Mischa Barton’s much-publicized meltdown, production on her new show, The Beautiful Life, has been postponed by nine days. Production – which was supposed to have begun Wednesday – has been pushed back to July 31.
A source claims the delay has nothing to do with Barton being put on an involuntary psychiatric hold at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center – but rather , the source says, it’s because the show’s sets are not yet completed.
