Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine, held an emotional memorial to honor her most famous son in his childhood hometown of Gary, Indiana, on Friday.

The superstar’s mom was greeted by hundreds of tearful fans when she made the historic return to the small Midwest town where Michael was born in August, 1958.

Wearing a fitted cream suit, Katherine was a ray of sunshine amongst the mourning fans as she unveiled a special monument in the King of Pop’s honor, which featured a black and white image of his iconic dance moves, on the front lawn of the family’s humble first home. Michael’s niece, Genevieve Jackson was also in attendance.

Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said Katherine has been making home improvements to the house on 2300 Jackson Street so that it looked it’s best for the special day. The home makeover included adding a new roof, fresh paint, and redoing the sidewalk and driveway, reported NBC Chicago.

Some obsessed Jackson devotees dressed up as their favorite star in red leather suits and did the Moonwalk down his old street.

Crowds flocked to the tomb of Michael Jackson at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Los Angeles on Friday to honor the first anniversary of the King of Pop’s death, and say a final farewell to the beloved gloved one.
