Shelley Malil,the actor from The 40-Year-Old-Virgin, got sentenced to life in prison on Thursday with possible parole, RadarOnline.com has learned. He had stabbed his ex-girlfriend 20 times after he stopped by her home unannounced and found her drinking wine with another man.

Three months ago, a jury convicted him of attempted premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon. They deliberated for less than four hours about the decision.

The sentence allows Malil to be eligible for parole in twelve years, though prosecutor Keith Watanabe said he could be freed in as few as nine years for time already served and for good behavior.

The actor who appeared in the film The 40-Year-Old Virgin has been convicted of attempted premeditated murder in the knife attack of his ex-girlfriend.

Jurors in San Diego on Thursday also found Shelley Malil guilty of assault with a deadly weapon.

He was acquitted of residential burglary.

The panel began deliberations on Wednesday in Vista Superior Court after a three-week trial.

Indian-born Malil played Haziz, a co-worker of Steve Carell's character in The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin star, Shelley Malil has admitted stabbing his former girlfriend more than 20 times, but claims he mistook her for someone else, RadarOnline.com has learned.

The actor took the stand in a Vista, California courtroom on Thursday and apologized for attacking his ex, 38-year-old Kendra Beebe, two years ago with a knife.

"I'm sorry," said Malil - who pled not guilty to premeditated attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and residential burglary.  "I had no idea. I saw the pictures of her wounds for the first time, I was stunned.

"When I look at those pictures I still can't believe the knife I was holding was responsible for all those injuries."

Keebe claims the actor stabbed her at her home after seeing her with another man.

But Malil told the court he did not mean to hurt her and simply felt threatened by the company she was keeping,

He said he had gone to her home and witnessed her and friend David Maldonado drinking wine together.

Believing Maldonado was going to attack him, he went for the knife.

"I heard the chair behind me backing up," he recalled. "I reach for the knife. I grab half the handle and he's pulling my arm, and I'm pulling away from him."

After a scuffle, Malil claimed to have lost sight of Maldonado so he headed to the kitchen to find him, only to see Maldonado heading to his car.

"I'm almost positive this guy's got a gun and coming after me," he said. "I come around the corner. It's eerily quiet. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, I get hit from the back on the side of the head. It felt like cold granite countertop."

Malil then remembers lashing out in the darkness for more than a minute before discovering it was Beebe, who was screaming for '911'.

"That's the first time I look and see its Kendra I'm fighting with."

If convicted of the charges against him, Malil faces 21 years in jail.

Closing statements are expected to be made on Tuesday.

The woman stabbed by The 40 Year Old Virgin actor, Shelley Mathew Malil, has admitted under oath to lying in a previous court battle raising which has raised a question of the woman’s credibility.

According to SignonSanDiego.com Kendra Beebe, 38, made the admission while being cross examined during Malil's trial where he is accused of stabbing Beebe more than 20 times during a brutal attack two years ago.

And while Malil, 45, is facing a possible life sentence, his alleged victim was forced to defend herself in the Vista Courtroom today.

Beebe admitted that she had previously lied in a deposition relating to her divorce and child custody battle after taking her children on an unauthorized trip outside the country.

Defense attorneys - who insist Malil did not plan the attack - said the evidence will show Beebe has 'credibility problems' because she lied under oath.

Photos of her and her two children on vacation in Mexico were shown in court, proving she had taken them outside of San Diego County, despite insisting she had not.

"I admit that’s a lie that I’m absolutely sorry about,” she said. “But it has nothing to do with me getting stabbed 25 times that night."

Malil is accused of attacking Beebe two years ago after turning up at her house to find her socializing with another man.

He has pleaded not guilty to charges of premeditated attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and residential burglary.
