EXCLUSIVE: LAPD's Brittany Murphy Investigation Remains Open, Focuses On Possible Overdose

While foul play has been initially dismissed as a factor in the death of Brittany Murphy and officials believe she died of natural causes, RadarOnline.com has confirmed that the Los Angeles Police Department is keeping their investigation open and now focusing on a possible overdose.

“We are keeping the investigation open until the toxicology reports are available in five to six weeks,” a senior LAPD source privy to the investigation told RadarOnline.com exclusively. “We are focusing on  possible overdose scenarios including looking at prescription medicines.”

Dean Sheremet formally filed for divorce from his estranged wife, LeAnn Rimes last week, but the couple has already reached a settlement and the divorce will be final on June 19th, 2010.

The couple were married in 2002, and separated over the summer after Leann became involved with then married television actor Eddie Cibrian.

Prying eyes won't be privvy to the divorce agreement though, according to the court documents, "Said MSA [marriage settlement agreement] consisting of 11 pages, shall not be filed in this proceeding due to the parties mutual desire to maintain their respective rights to privacy, except for enforcement purposes as provided in paragraph 2 herein. The MSA contains confidential information which each party desires to protect."

In Sheremet's original divorce petition, he was seeking spousal support and for Rimes to pay his attorney's fees.

Brittany Murphy's Husband Breaks Silence: "My World Was Destroyed"

One day after the tragic and sudden death of actress Brittany Murphy, her husband Simon Monjack broke his silence on Monday.

“My world was destroyed yesterday,” Monjack told Access Hollywood. Monjack opened up about the details surrounding Murphy’s last moments, saying “[Her Mother] Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then I called 911.”

Monjack said before discovering Brittany, it had been a “regular day.” He said Murphy had been sick but he didn’t think it was anything serious.

“She had laryngitis,” he admitted, adding that she had been to see the doctor. “She had been tired at the end of the year. She had made a couple movies.”

Monjack, who married Murphy in 2007, knocked down reports that Murphy’s death may have been the result of foul play .

“I don’t know why anyone would think that,” he said. “She found love. We found love. Brittany didn’t get to where Brittany was with anyone controlling her…Brittany was Brittany.”

Following her death on Sunday, the Hollywood community rallied together to send their condolences to Murphy’s family. Murphy’s ex-boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher, wrote a touching message on his Twitter page.

Regarding that, Monjack said, “I loved what Ashton [Kutcher] wrote on Twitter. It was comforting to me. I couldn’t have said it better.”

Cruise vehemently denied any accusations of being gay and Fields filed a lawsuit on behalf of his client fordefamation, asking for $100 million in damages.

Murphy, 32, looked extremely thin on Dec. 3 as she walked the red carpet in a short black dress designed by her designer friend for the opening of Tt Collection’s Pop-Up shop in LA. According to Saidnia, Murphy was “upbeat and in good spirits” as she gushed about her family and husband, Simon Monjack.

“Brittany was so sweet and generous,” said Saidnia. She was our biggest fan. There was no indication that night that anything was wrong.”

Brittany was pronounced dead at Cedars Sinai Hospital on Dec.20 after suffering cardiac arrest at her Hollywood Hills home.

As RadarOnline.com reported exclusively, Murphy’s neighbor, Clare Staples, saw the actress being taken out of her house on a gurney as five rescue workers tried to resuscitate her early Sunday morning.

Brittany’s Autopsy Completed

The actress collapsed in the bathroom and was reportedly found unconscious in the shower by a famly member.

On Monday, the results of Murphy’s autopsy were deferred pending toxicology and neurological reports. Autopsy surgeons took a slice of her brain for testing. It will be 5-6 weeks for test results to come through.

The oddball pair were spotted packing their car and driving out of Marfa, Texas on Monday morning by the city mayor Daniel Dunlap.
